Rig's News

At least, according to my good buddy Ronay. So I wrote a song in commemoration.

It's probably the best song in the world.

Now the sequential titles of my last few blog posts make a nice little triangle thingie.

:D

Lol.

Just when I think I have something applicable for the Top 5 New Songs section, people bomb my stuff. Yeah, yeah, I know...everyone goes through it. But most of the stuff I submit is better than what ends up there anyway.

/whine

I hate sounding like a snob. Gah. I wish I were famous so anything I submit to the portal is seen as golden droppings.

EDIT: Hey, everyone's entitled to one whiny post per year. This is the Whiny Post of '07.

This used to be just a list of lists, but I've decided to expand it to tutorials and other helpful resources written by musicians here on NG. Do you have something to add? Leave a comment! :)

The Five Most Common Problems With AP Musicby Suspended-3rd-Chord
I've been on the AP for about 10 months now, and I spend the majority of the time here listening to music and sometimes writing reviews. When pointing out and explaining potential flaws that I see in a track, I notice there is a common trend to what I (and possibly others) would change...

Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to have fancy-schmancy equipment to create cool loops (purists, please stop reading now). This tutorial will show you how you can create all the loops you'll ever want using only your computer. It doesn't even have to be a top-of-the-line computer, as long as it has Windows (which 99% of computers are running...don't quote me on that) and some speakers!

I used to put your rank number on as well, but that became too much of a hassle. Just count.
When updating your stats, I'd prefer it if you guys just gave me your total fan count instead of how many fans were added from last time. It's easier for all of us. :)

Here's a list of audio artists on NG and their favourite programs. Big shout-out to DSMagnum, who compiled the original list!
Feel free to get me to change your stuff, or add new things.

Here's some links to the software listed below, in no particular order.

You have to pay for these ones.
SEQUENCERS: FL Studio (Windows only), Reason, Magix Music Maker, Cubase, Noteworthy Composer, Ableton Live, Garageband (Mac only), ACID, Pro Tools
AUDIO EDITORS: Wavelab, Sound Forge, VEGAS, Audition

These are FREE! :D
SEQUENCERS: Buzz, Reaper
AUDIO EDITORS: Audacity, Wavepad

Also, here's a list of free VSTs and VSTis!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

SEQ = Sequencer
You can create songs with VSTs using a Sequencer. Most of them have audio editing functions as well!

AE = Audio Editor
These programs were made do all sorts of crazy things with sound clips - chop them up, rearrange them, control the volume, things like that. Most of them do NOT have sequencing functions.

VST
These are little programs that you load into Sequencers - they create all sorts of sounds and effects. Not all of the VSTs the artists use are listed - just their favourites.

RF = Refills
These are sound packs and settings for the Reason sequencer.

RI = Reason Instruments
These are synths and stuff built into Reason, as Reason doesn't do VSTs.

HW = Hardware
Stuff like keyboards, mixers, headphones - things you can physically manipulate.

SF = Soundfonts
Kinda like VSTs, but with less control overall.

- The older users have hardware
- Rucklo and YunVeroz are tied for most hardware.
- Nobody with a "T" in their name uses only Reason.

- PianoForte is the only person who uses Cubase on it's own.
- If FL Studio and Reason had a kid, it would be the most whoop-ass kid out there. (although I wonder...who would wear the pants in the family?)
